
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th, 2000) is an American actor and singer whose career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch singer, known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her recording of "Cry me a river" which she introduced to her debut album. Alongside her music-related recognition, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's career as an actor of 35 years began in film in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in numerous westerns. In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. In 1969 she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be an actor on the Emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) where she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
